He says difficult people eventually gain a measure of control over us — they get in our heads, and we start mirroring their behavior, meeting reaction with reaction, later having to apologize to people who had nothing to do with it.
An unexpected calm
He coins a term for it: not overreacting, not suppressing either, but responding to criticism, betrayal, or rejection with an unexpectedly calm or gracious reaction, the kind that makes onlookers ask "why aren't you angry?" He says this kind of reaction is the actual evidence of trusting God — not simply saying we believe.
What a reaction reveals about faith
他引使徒彼得的話說,耶穌被辱罵的時候不還口,把結果交託給神;他也引保羅在獄中仍能說「神使萬事互相效力」,最後收在羅馬書 8 章:「若神幫助我們,誰能敵擋我們?」He cites Peter's account that Jesus, when insulted, did not retaliate but entrusted the outcome to God; he also cites Paul, imprisoned yet still saying "God works all things together for good," landing finally on Romans 8: "If God is for us, who can be against us?"
His "what does my reaction say about my confidence in God" is worth asking ourselves too: are we willing to let the people around us see our real reaction in a hard moment, or only let God see it?
Not carrying it alone
What he teaches is how one person, alone in a hard moment, chooses an unexpected response — that's a personal discipline. What we believe is a little different: a person is rarely really getting through that moment alone — someone who matters walks with them, and they lay the real state of their heart open together, and that's what carries them back. A reaction reveals not only whether we trust God, but also whether we remember we're not carrying this alone — someone truly fighting solo will, over time, stop holding the line and slide back to where they started. That's a layer we've added ourselves, not something he said.
If something today makes you want to strike back immediately, find someone first and say your real reaction out loud — don't just process it alone.

Scripture
"If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" (Romans 8:31-32)
He treats this passage as the answer for the whole series — a reaction can only settle once there's somewhere solid to return to.
