She says that in middle school, volunteering at a school for at-risk youth was the first time she realized how much of her own smooth path had come from luck, not merit.
When the labels come
She says that when labels like "pretty girl" or "born a winner" drew criticism, she chose not to defend herself, but to honestly sit with those voices, and let her own self-assertion shrink.
That leaves us asking ourselves a question: when someone misunderstands us or labels us, is our first move to prove ourselves, or to honestly listen?
Two whole circles
She says a healthy relationship is two whole circles — I don't need you to exist, you don't need me to exist, but together, there's a one-plus-one-greater-than-two effect.
That reminds us: a relationship that truly stands side by side isn't one person propping up another — it's two people who can already stand on their own, choosing to walk together. Her "two whole circles" pushes us one step further: if one side of a relationship needs the other to stand, that isn't standing side by side — that's propping up. We're left asking ourselves: with the people around us, are we two circles, or one circle holding up someone else's half?
Where does your courage come from
She redefines "where does your courage come from" into "how well do you know what you care about and what you want."
Her "I was just lucky" reminds us that fullness isn't there to prove we deserve it — it's there to be given away. That's a layer we've added ourselves, not something she said.
Ask yourself today: what do I actually care about, what do I actually want? Once you can answer, courage often follows.
