Andy Stanley is the founder and senior pastor of North Point Ministries, and the author of more than twenty leadership books. I myself was shaped early on by the circle he belongs to — so on this subject, our lines run alongside each other.
These four talks are all about prayer, in a different order each time: let go, forgive, follow, see.
放手 Let go
Why Should We Pray
Prayer is not about moving God, but being moved by God."

He says you think prayer is telling God what you need. He says it isn't — your Father already knows what you need; prayer isn't persuading God, it's surrendering. The hard part isn't finding the right words, it's being willing to say "your will, not mine." Find the place where you can't say that yet — he says that's where God wants to work.
That leaves us asking ourselves: even the willingness to surrender control has to be found again and again — that's not disqualifying, it's still in practice. "Your will be done" is really about a person becoming able to carry, wait, and choose — not only toward people, but toward God too.
Forgive
Part 2 · 2021-03-15 · 賜下 Give Us
To refuse to forgive is to refuse to follow."
He says the prayer has three parts: daily naming that everything comes from God; asking God's forgiveness while first forgiving the person who hurt you, because refusing to forgive stalls the prayer; and asking to be kept out of temptation. The whole talk turns on one word: letting go. When he addresses unforgiveness, he first admits "you have a hundred reasons not to forgive," then invites you forward — naming before inviting, not before condemning.
Looking one layer further down: whether we can forgive often gets stuck on an earlier lesson not yet learned — that someone we dislike isn't necessarily a bad person, and that someone who hurt us can exist in the same world as us without needing to be erased from it.
Follow
Lead Us Not Into Temptation
Who am I here for? Ask that question, and the world opens up to you."

He says temptation doesn't ambush us — it finds an opening because we've already told ourselves "it's not that dangerous." What actually protects us isn't willpower — it's asking the right question first: not "why am I here" but "who am I here for." He says even Jesus' closest followers "barely got there" in surrender — the struggle is normal, not disqualifying, everyone walks at their own pace on the same road.
看見 See
Help Me See
Lord, I want to see."
He says we often assume we already understand God correctly. But even the disciples who walked with Jesus for three years couldn't see clearly — your past, your personality, your prejudice, all three block what you can see. To really see, you first have to admit that what you currently see might be wrong. Bartimaeus asked for only one thing: "Lord, I want to see." The moment he cried out, Jesus stopped.
He describes his past self as judging others by his own righteousness, then trading "temple" (fixed stone) for "tabernacle" (moves, needs upkeep) — no one has arrived, everyone is still in motion.
He often begins with the individual; we often begin with how a group lives it
The four talks say one thing, in a different order each time. He often asks "who are you living for," and answers "the Lord" — we fully agree, and want to add a layer underneath it: living for the Lord isn't something forced into being by effort — it's the fruit that grows out of life first connecting with the Lord, then coming into alignment with what's larger than us. Without that layer, busyness can quietly turn into a person becoming their own lord, with the ministry itself centered on them.
He never said "same rank, different position," but when he said "tabernacles move, temples don't," he was pointing at the same thing. Our side-by-side way of walking, with no one leading the other, is not a term he invented — it is the shape we walked out on our own path. We just found, along the way, that our direction runs alongside his.
Find one place today where you still can't say "your will be done" — you don't have to resolve it, just honestly admit it's there.
This is not a word-for-word translation. It is our distillation — read first in the original, then said again in our own words, with sources, and an honest flag for where we've built on top of what he said versus where he didn't go there himself.
